Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin trolled the commentators for not explaining why he would’ve been given not out in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) clash on July 28 when the bowler attempted to run him out at non-striker’s end.
In the encounter between Dindigul Dragons and Nellai Royal Kings, Ashwin was warned by Mohit Prasath in the 15th over of the innings. Ashwin had his bat grounded and inside the crease while Prasath was in his bowling stride.
The video went viral on social media. However, an X user questioned commentators for not pointing out the rule.
The user wrote: “Why are the commentators not pointing the fact that he was in at the time of the delivery stride and that it would have been a Not out?”
Ashwin replied to the fan's post on X saying "Cos (Because) they don't know the rule."
Ashwin also shared the non-striker's end run out rule on July 29.
“At any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be run out if he/ she is out of his/ her ground.
“In these circumstances, the non-striker will be out run out if he/ she is out of his/ her ground when his/ her wicket is broken by the bowler throwing the ball at the stumps or by the bowler’s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered.”

A couple of years ago, Ashwin said that he will take advantage of batters' reluctance to run out at the non-striker’s end if the batter leaves before the ball is released.
“I mean, if people are going to come out and say that they won't do it, as a cricketer, I'll use that as an advantage for myself,” he said.

“Nobody likes getting out. I don't like being nicked off, bowled, run out any way. I also wouldn't like to get run out at the non-striker because it's a form of dismissal, and it's pretty legal.”
