Australia's hard-hitting batter and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) two-time IPL-winning member Tim David joined the list of batters who have questioned Pakistan’s unorthodox spinner Usman Tariq’s bowling action. David got out caught behind in The Hundred clash between Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets. But, he gestured no-ball and wanted a review before walking back to the dugout immediately.
The on-field umpires deemed it as a legitimate delivery and David had to leave the field. He was dismissed for a single-digit score in a record-breaking high-scoring match at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on July 24.

Earlier, Australia's Cameron Green in the T20I series between Pakistan and Australia in January 2026 and England's Tom Banton during ILT20 2025, New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell during Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 have objected to Tariq's bowling action. His long pause has been under the scrutiny in PSL's 2024 and 2025 seasons too but he was cleared to bowl.
Historic run chase in losing cause
Batting for Trent Rockets in the run chase of 215, David walked out to bat at no.4 but could score just two runs from three balls. The Sam Billings-led Trent Rockets ended up losing the match by 10 runs. despite Tom Banton's 32-ball 67, Ben Duckett's 25-ball 49 and Finn Allen's 17-ball 43. Trent Rockets posted 204/4, the highest score in The Hundred’s history while chasing.
Tariq gets key wickets
In addition to David’s wicket, Tariq dismissed Allen as well, getting a crucial breakthrough. From the 20 balls he bowled, he conceded 36 runs and bagged a couple of wickets.
High-scoring game in Birmingham
Earlier, Joe Clarke's 33-ball 68, Will Smeed (28-ball 51), Rehan Ahmed's 25-ball 48 and cameos from skipper Donovan Ferreira and others helped Birmingham Phoenix post 214/4. It is the second-highest score in the history of the competition.
Tariq’s next appearance
Tariq will be seen in action on July 26 at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. Against Aiden Markram-led Manchester Super Giants which also features big hitters Jos Buttler, Heinrich Klaasen and Tim Seifert, Tariq will be tested again. The off-spinner has played just one game in the ongoing season so far.
