Story Highlights:

Dewald Brevis scored a brilliant 41-ball ton against Australia

Dale Steyn heaped praise on Brevis for his terrific knock

South Africa batter Dewald Brevis played a stunning knock of 125 runs from just 56 deliveries against Australia in the second T20I of the three-match series. The middle-order batter hit 12 boundaries and 8 sixes in his incredible inning which helped the Proteas in posting a mammoth total of 218/7 in 20 overs.

In reply, the Australian batters weren't able to put in a good performance and were bundled out for 165 runs in 17.4 overs. As a result, the visitors won the match by a massive 53-run margin. Both Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch picked up three scalps each as the Proteas levelled the series at 1-1 heading into the third and final match.

Legendary South Africa pacer Dale Steyn was left very impressed with Brevis' knock and lavished praise on the 22-year-old “Brevis is the real f***** deal,” Steyn wrote on X. This post would soon go viral on the social media platform.

Brevis brought up his hundred after facing just 41 deliveries and this saw him become the second-fastest South African to score a ton in the shortest format. He is only behind David Miller on the list, who scored a 35-ball T20I century against Bangladesh back in 2017.

Brevis shared his views on the century

The young batter reflected on his hundred after the match and remarked that he was very happy to help the side in getting the much-needed victory.

"I have not really thought about it, but extremely grateful. Just happy we won today, great to be out here on the winning side. To celebrate that final wicket - that was the ultimate (feeling) today. You want to win, so be able to come back strong after the first game is fantastic. Everyone played their part. We took our catches, bowlers nailed their plans, and good to see it all (pan out). They (the Australian batters) are great players, they hit the ball hard and over the ropes, so we have to be on it, especially in this format. We played well today, so that's great," Brevis said after the match, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, the final T20I of the series will take place on August 16 at the Cazalys Stadium in Cairns. It will be interesting to see which team out of the two will come out on top and win the deciding game of the three-match assignment.
