Pakistan cricketer Yasir Shah has been caught in a huge controversy after an FIR was registered against him for helping a friend who molested and assaulted a girl. Although not directly involved, Yasir was alleged to have helped his friend Farhan in the wrongdoing and will now face action from the authorities in the coming days, if not hours.
According to reports, Farhan, a friend of Yasir kidnapped a girl on gunpoint, raped her, made videos of her and later made threats to her. The FIR was filed at the Shalimar police station in Lahore as the girl launched a complaint against the off-spinner and his friend. Yasir though is yet to respond as he hasn’t broken the silence on the issue.
It is claimed that Farhan and Yasir threatened to release the videos of the victim if she raised any voice against them. She alleged that Yasir (not directly involved) was one of the key elements in trying to shut down the matter.
As per the report filed, the girl contacted Yasir on Whatsapp and asked for help. The spinner’s response though was pathetic as he first laughed at the matter and then asked her to keep her mouth shut in the entire issue. It is also claimed that the Pakistani bowler offered a flat and compensation for 18 years if she remained silent in the controversy.
Yasir has represented Pakistan on 46 occasions in Test while donning the famous green kit on 25 occasions in ODI and twice in T20 cricket. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to comment on the issue but remains to be seen how the board led by former cricketer Ramiz Raja reacts. The 35-year-old was absent from the recently concluded Bangladesh tour and West Indies’ tour of Pakistan. He last represented the nation in August against West Indies and will now face an anxious wait on the further proceedings in the case.
