Rohit Sharma scored 31 runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg believes that Rohit Sharma is finished in Test cricket and should move on. India captain Rohit recently featured in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 where he just scored 31 runs in his three Test outings. The veteran batter is currently going through a lean patch of his career in the longest format of the game. The veteran batter has just scored 164 runs in his last 15 Test innings with an average of 10.93 including just one half-century.

After failing to perform in three Test matches the India captain opted out from the fifth Test match of the five Test match series played in Sydney. Hogg also questioned Rohit's way of getting out during the India vs Australia Test series.

"I think Rohit Sharma is probably finished right now out in Test level. He should have moved on. His form over the last 6-7 months has not been great," Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

"He is getting bowled, LBW and as an opener, those type of dismissals shouldn’t be happening early on in the innings. LBW, yes, but shouldn’t be getting bowled between bat and pad," he added.

The former Australia spinner Hogg backs Rohit Sharma's decision to opt-out from the playing XI for the Sydney Test. However, Hogg felt that Rohit should have made the same move in the fourth Test in Melbourne. Hogg also expressed confidence in Rohit’s abilities in limited-overs cricket.

"It’s a little bit disappointing with the form now and I think the red-ball game, he did the right thing in Australia, probably should’ve done it in the Melbourne Test and let Gill play in that Test as well," Hogg said in the aforementioned interview.

"When it comes to ODI cricket, I still think he’s got a lot to offer. You can play a little bit more aggressively and with freedom as well. But age is starting to be wrong side of the ledger for Rohit Sharma. He’s had a wonderful career, there’s no doubt about that. I hope for his and India’s sake, he just it on a high whenever he wants to," he added.

After losing 3-1 against Australia, Rohit will now be seen in action in the upcoming ODI series against England which will be India's last assignment before Champions Trophy 2025.
