Story Highlights:

Ryan ten Doeschate reportedly resigned due to personal reasons despite receiving a contract extension from the BCCI.

The former Netherlands international is expected to rejoin KKR, where he previously won multiple IPL titles as both a player and coach.

In a series of expected events, Ryan ten Doeschate has resigned from his role as India's men's assistant coach and is set to return to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the upcoming IPL 2027 season. The former Netherlands international took over the role of India's men's assistant coach in 2024 soon after Gautam Gambhir's arrival as the head coach.

According to a latest report by ESPNcricinfo, he informed the BCCI regarding his decision during India's recently concluded tour of the United Kingdom, where the Men in Blue lost every white-ball series. It was claimed that Gambhir might try to convince him to continue for a while but nothing substantial came out of it.

How Doeschate fared as India's assistant coach?

During his tenure, India enjoyed considerable success in white-ball formats as the Men in Blue lifted the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 2025 Asia Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, this decision by Doeschate came despite being offered an extension until 2027 by the BCCI, which was impressed by his contributions to the team's success.

What is the reason behind Doeschate's resignation?

Although the BCCI was keen to extend the former Netherlands international for another year, Doeschate chose to step away from the role because of personal reasons. With a young family to prioritize, he opted against continuing with the demanding international calendar, choosing instead to spend more time with his close ones.

KKR waiting for Doeschate's arrival

A comeback to KKR would be a familiar adventure for Ryan ten Doeschate. He was a member of KKR's IPL triumphs in 2012 and 2014 as a player before playing a key role in the franchise's title winning campaign in 2024 in a coaching role.

With this, he would also see him getting back with Abhishek Nayar, who currently serves as team's head coach. Unlike international cricket, the IPL role would demand a short-term commitment, which would help Doeschate to spend more time with his family.
