Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to India's legendary duo Rohit Sharma and  Virat Kohli after they announced their retirement from T20 international following the team's T20 World Cup win. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were teary-eyed while they were announcing their retirement from the shortest format of the game. Cricketing god Tendulkar lavished praise on their career by sharing a post on social media. 

 

Rohit and Kohli played their last T20I against South Africa in the finale of the T20 World Cup where Men in Blue defeated Proteas by seven runs to become the new World T20 champions. Kohli was awarded as the Player of the Match for his 76-run knock.

Tendulkar called him the true champion of cricket and hailed Kohli for his 76-run knock in the final of the T20 World Cup. He also wished Kohli to win matches in the longer formats of the game.

 

"@virat.kohli, you have been a true champion of this sport. You may have had a rough time earlier in the tournament, but last night you proved why you’re truly one of the greats of the gentleman’s game. Competing in six World Cups and clinching victory in the last one is an experience I know well. I hope to see you continue winning matches for India in the longer formats of the game" posted Tendulkar for Kohli.

Rohit leaves T20Is with 4231 runs from 159 matches, having made five hundreds and 32 fifties. In 125 T20I matches, Kohli scored 4188 runs at an average of 48.69 with 122 being his highest. That was his only T20 century - coming against Afghanistan in September 2022.

 

Both will continue to be active in the IPL and the ODI and Test formats internationally.
