The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on September 1 announced the squad for T20I series against Afghanistan which will be played in Delhi. After getting dropped/rested for the Zimbabwe tour, Sanju Samson has returned to the squad.
As many as four players’ — Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana – participation is subject to fitness.
The T20I series will begin on September 13. The The second and third T20I will be played on September 15 and 17 respectively.

Players dropped from T20I squad
From the squad of Zimbabwe, the list of players missing from the current squad are Rinku Singh, Suryansh Shedge, Harsh Dubey, Prabhsimran Singh, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Mayank Yadav and Ashok Sharma. Notably, Prabhsimra, Dubey have been dropped without getting a chance in the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Kuldeep Yadav hasn't made it to the T20I squad too. The team management has stuck with Ravi Bishnoi.
In addition, Prasidh Krishna has been dropped as well. He was a part of the T20I squad on UK tour (England and Ireland).
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya continues to be on the sidelines. There is no official word on his fitness from BCCI's medical team. He hasn't played a T20I since T20 World Cup 2026.
The selectors have ruled out former captain Suryakumar Yadav's comeback. Suryakumar is focusing on proving his mettle in domestic cricket and make a case for his return.
