Pakistan seamer Shaheen Afridi had a debut to forget for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL). He was taken off the bowling attack after he bowled two waist-high beamers during his third over of the innings against the Melbourne Renegades on Monday.
The incident occurred on the fifth delivery of the 18th over when Shaheen bowled a full-toss that vsaw batter Oliver Peake defend himself and step aside. Though the pacer apologised immediately, the on-field umpire called in Brisbane Heat captain Nathan McSweeney and consulted him before taking Shaheen completely off the attack mid-over. McSweeney was the one who completed the remainder of the over.
Shaheen's costly spell
Shaheen bowled an incredibly expensive spell and gave away 43 runs from just 2.4 overs as the Renegades went on to post a formidable total of 212/5 on the board in 20 overs. Heat would eventually lose the match as they got restricted down to 198/8 in 20 overs.
Shaheen had a tough start to his BBL debut and conceded niner runs in his opening over. He was handed the ball again for the 13th over, but ended up leaking 19 runs after being hit for a six and two boundaries. Then, in his third over he gave away 14 runs from four deliveries before being taken off the attack.
Rizwan also flops on BBL debut
Renegades wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan also wasn't able to make much oif an impact and got dismissed for just four runs by Heat's Patrick Dooley. Despite this setback, Tim Seifert's sensational hundred and Oliver Peake's half-century saw them get to a mammoth total. In reply, Colin Munro and Jimmy Peirson's half-centuries did get Heat close to the 213-run target, but they eventually lost by 14 runs to begin their BBL campaign on a dismal note. Seifert was named the Player of the Match for his phenomenal knock of 102 runs from 56 deliveries.
