India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill moved past teammate Virat Kohli to take no.2 spot in ICC ODI batter rankings following scores of unbeaten 84 and 154 in recently-concluded three-ODI series against Afghanistan. Kohli was ruled out of Afghanistan series due to a hamstring injury sustained in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final.
Meanwhile, Kohli has regained fitness and will have a chance to move up in the rankings when India go up against England in the three-ODI series next month.
Gill moved up three places after a big hundred against Afghanistan in Lucknow. He has 791 rating points, three more than Kohli. The top spot is still occupied by New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell. Kohli is followed by Rohit Sharma at no.4. Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zandran slipped to the fifth spot, following scores of 1, 21, and 11 in the ODI series in India.
Rahul slips out of top 10, Jaiswal’s colossal jump
There were other changes in top 10 as well. KL Rahul slipped two places to 11th spot after a golden duck in Lucknow. As a result, Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka and England ODI captain harry Brook moved to ninth and 10th place respectively.
After a blazing ton in Dharamsala in a losing cause, Rahmanullah Gurbaz registered scores of 41 and 5. He slipped two places to 15th. South Africa's Quinton de Kock and India ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer took the 13th and 14th place respectively. Iyer did not have the best of runs in the series. After scores of 12 and 26, he capped off the ODI series with an unbeaten 20 in the run chase.
Ishan Kishan and Yashasvi Jaiswal made huge jumps. Kishan's 125 helped him jump 21 places to 43rd. Jaiswal's century in the third ODI run chase led to a massive 84-place jump to 71st. Jaiswal has been dropped from the ODI squad upon fit-again Kohli's return.
Arshdeep up 16 places
There was no change in top 10 in ICC ODI bowler rankings. Mohammed Siraj missed the ODI series as part of his workload management. It lead to West Indies' Jayden Seales and Australia's Adam Zampa moving up one place with Siraj slipping two places. Arshdeep made a huge jump after taking five wickets against Afghanistan. He moved up 16 places to take the 22nd spot. Prasidh Krishna climbed 34 places to 58th spot whereas Washington Sundar moved to 61st with a gain of 17 places.
