Pakistan speedster Sohail Khan on September 3 (Sunday) announced his retirement from international and First-Class cricket. The 39-year-old took to 'X' (formerly known as Twitter) to announce his decision. In a tweet, the right-arm pacer thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), his teammates and coaches among others. Sohail also made it clear that he will continue to play domestic white-ball and franchise cricket.
"After a thorough consultation with my close ones, I’ve decided to retire from International & First Class Cricket. Big thank you to PCB, my family, coaches, mentors, teammates, fans, and everyone who supported me. I would continue playing domestic white ball & franchise,"
Sohail garnered a ton of limelight during Pakistan's 2015 ODI World Cup match against arch-rivals India in Adelaide when he picked a five-wicket haul. It was not just the five wickets he bagged but what was more impressive about his spell was the batters he dismissed.
The right-arm pacer dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ajinkya Rahane. Despite Sohail's brilliant spell with the ball, where he finished with excellent figures of 5/55 in 10 overs, the Men in Blue defeated the Men in Green.
Talking about Sohail's career, the right-arm pacer made his debut for Pakistan in 2008 and from there on, he went on to represent his country in nine Tests, 13 ODIs and five T20Is.
Overall, he bagged 52 wickets for Pakistan in international cricket with the help of three five-wicket hauls. He picked 27 wickets in Tests, 19 wickets in ODIs and five in T20Is.
Talking about First-Class cricket, the 39-year-old bagged 516 wickets in 121 matches at an average of 24.64 and a terrific strike rate of 43.1. He bagged 37 five-wicket hauls and 21 four-wicket hauls. He also finished with 10 or more wickets in a match seven times in red-ball cricket.
Recently, Sohail bagged four wickets in as many deliveries in the US Master T10 League competition. The right-arm pacer achieved the feat while representing New York Warriors against the Atlanta Riders.
