Sri Lanka's Colombo-born all-rounder Movin Subasinghe scripted history in Panadura as he smashed 14 sixes at no.7 and scored 140 runs in a List A game on August 10. Subasinghe scored joint third-highest score by a no.7 batter in List A cricket. The 26-year-old shares the third spot with former Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera (140 off 74 balls against India in 2019) and New Zealand's Michael Bracewell (140 off 78 deliveries against India in 2023). He surpassed former India captain MS Dhoni who scored an unbeaten 139 off 97 balls for Asia XI against Africa XI in 2007.
The record for the highest List A score at no.7 belongs to New Zealand's Luke Ronchi with an unbeaten 170 off 99 balls against Sri Lanka in 2015. He is followed by Australia's Marcus Stoinis who scored an unbeaten 146 off 117 balls against New Zealand in 2017 in a losing cause.
Subasinghe flips the script with monstrous hitting
In the clash between Burgher Recreation Club against Noderscripts Cricket Club, Subasinghe arrived at the crease in the 31st over when the score was 139/5. Burgher Recreation Club captain Savin Gunasekara had just fallen for a single-digit score. Subasinghe got off the mark with a six and hit another in the 31st over. In the next over, Dulaj Ashen fell to Praveen Maneesha. Subasinghe reached his half-century from just 22 balls in the 37th over. On the other end, Mohamed Shiraz fell to Shakthi Udara.
From 201/7, Subasinghe continued to help Burgher Recreation Club post a big total. In the 41st over, he hit Maneesha for three consecutive sixes. He hit Chamika Karunaratne for a boundary in the 45th over to reach his second List A century from 51 balls.
The onslaught continued in the final few overs. In the final over, he hit Kamil Mishara for a two sixes and a four before getting caught by Karunaratne. His 72-ball 140 was laced with 10 fours and 14 sixes. On the last ball, Sithuka Gunawardana was run out trying to take a second run. Burgher Recreation Club posted 304/9 on the board.
Subasinghe claims four-fer
Subasinghe made an impact with the ball as well. He got the wicket of opener Mishara, wicketkeeper-batter Vinuka Rubasinghe, Yenula Dewthusa and skipper Karunaratne. He was expensive, conceding 50 runs from 6.2 overs but got four wickets. Dewthusara's fifty and Karunaratne's 66-ball 82 went in vain as Nonderscripts Cricket Club were bowled out for 272 in 47.2 overs. Burgher Recreation Club won the match by 32 runs in the Major Clubs Limited Over tournament.
Subasinghe’s recent LPL appearance and List A record
Subasinghe had also played for Colombo Kaps against Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 match. He was dismissed for a single-digit score. The 26-year-old has played 51 List A games so far and bagged 69 wickets, averaging 17.21, including a fifer. With the bat, he has scored 971 runs from 48 innings at an average of 21.10 and 98.17 strike rate. Apart from two tons, he has three fifties in List A cricket as well.
