Story Highlights:

India A were firmly placed at 334/4 by the close of Day 1 of the first unofficial Test vs Sri Lanka A

It was Sai Sudharsan, who stole the limelight with a magnificent century

An elegant century from Sai Sudharsan, complemented by unbeaten half-centuries from captain Dhruv Jurel and Shaik Rasheed, propelled India A into a commanding position on the opening day of their unofficial Test series against Sri Lanka A on June 25. After opting to bat first, the visitors amassed a formidable 333/4 by stumps.

Sudharsan anchored the innings with a brilliant 132, before Jurel (68*) and Rasheed (53*) capitalized on the foundation with an authoritative, unbroken partnership in the final session.

Opening the batting, Sudharsan looked organized and composed from the very first ball, showcasing a mature blend of defensive solidity and aggressive stroke-play. The left-hander navigated an 82-run opening stand with Aayush Pandey before the latter departed. Unfazed, the Tamil Nadu batter steadily ground down the Sri Lankan bowling attack on a surface that offered some initial assistance. His 175-ball knock was punctuated by 19 boundaries, demonstrating his ability to accelerate effortlessly once he adjusted to the conditions.

No respite for Sri Lanka A

The hosts found no relief after finally dismissing Sudharsan, as Jurel and Rasheed seamlessly carried the momentum forward. Scoring at a brisk rate of 3.87 runs per over across the 86 overs bowled, the duo put the Sri Lankan attack on the back foot. Jurel led by example with a well-paced, captain's knock that kept the scoreboard ticking, while Rasheed looked equally comfortable against both raw pace and spin, ensuring India A firmly held the upper hand heading into day two.

While the pitch offered occasional assistance to the home side, Sri Lanka A’s bowling unit largely struggled to contain the opposition. Left-arm spinner Dilum Sudeera was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets for 98 runs across a heavy 29-over workload. However, India A consistently neutralised the pressure, keeping the scoreboard ticking over by blending strict batting discipline with bursts of controlled aggression to build successive partnerships.

With a dominant opening day behind them and momentum firmly on their side, the visitors are well-positioned to bat Sri Lanka A out of the game. India A's primary objective heading into the second day will be to capitalise on this formidable platform and convert their strong start into a massive first-innings total.
