'There was so much fan following and the rivalry': Dinesh Karthik picks Pakistan as his favourite cricketing opponent

Karthik last featured for India in T20 World Cup 2022

India veteran wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik who announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in 2024 said that his favourite opponent in international cricket is Pakistan. India vs Pakistan cricket match is one of the most followed cricketing rivalries and most of their matches end with a nail-biting contest. Karthik last featured against Pakistan was in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, Australia where India defeated the arch-rivals by four wickets to register their first win of the tournament.

 

Karthik last featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 where he represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and scored 326 runs in 15 matches of the cash-rich league. 
 

"My favourite team to play against is Pakistan because there was so much fan following and the rivalry was so high always. It was always a lot of fun playing a game against Pakistan. When you do well against them, its even better” said Karthik as quoted by cricket Pakistan. 
 

 

Karthik represented India in six Tests, three T20Is and four ODIs against Pakistan where he scored 339 runs. After his IPL announcement, the veteran wicketkeeper batter will be the mentor and batting coach for the franchise.

India vs Pakistan head to head across all formats

 

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), the two teams India and Pakistan clashed 135 times, with India securing 57 victories and Pakistan winning 73 matches. Five matches ended without a result. Talking about Test cricket, India and Pakistan have played 59 matches, with India winning 9 and Pakistan winning 12. The remaining 38 matches ended in a draw. Meanwhile talking about Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), the teams have squared off 13 times, with India winning 10 and Pakistan securing 3 victories.

 

India vs Pakistan last three outings

 

India and Pakistan last faced each other in T20 World Cup 2024 and before that, both teams faced each other in Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023. India have defeated Men in Green in all three occasions. Team India will now face Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2024 (if India is featured in the event) which will be hosted by Pakistan.
