Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Indian team management to groom three players for the future after the current crop of playerswere not up to the mark in the recent tour of South Africa. According to him, Deepak Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav and Prasidh Krishna are the future of Indian cricket and should be groomed in order to gain experience. He also suggested that this set of players should not be limited to the bench, but could contribute by playing in the eleven.

"Definitely, they have only enhanced their claims by the way they played," Gavaskar answered on the trio’s future.

"Yes, it was a dead rubber but for them it was not. Because for them it was an opportunity to show what they are capable of. And they knew South Africa would be very keen to have a complete sweep of the series. So that the pressure would be on them. And they came through very well. There is no question about it, which is the reason you need to invest in them more,” the 72-year-old said while analysing the trio’s performance.

Team India were recently humiliated with a whitewash in the ODI series against South Africa as the KL Rahul-led side had no answer to the Proteas' fulminating performance. The Indian team management opted to make three changes for the dead rubber encounter against South Africa in the final ODI. The trio of Suryakumar, Chahar and Krishna all made it to the eleven and made a mark. However, according to the former World Cup winner, they need to be given more opportunities for the future.

"Give them the feeling that now they should get more opportunities. That now they belong in the team than being made to sit in the dugout. So definitely these three names ones that you need to look at for the future," the 1983 World Cup winner added.

The selection of the trio didn't disappoint the management as all three performed to their strengths. Chahar was the pick of all as the 29-year-old scored 54 runs and scalped brace of wickets. On the other hand, Suryakumar scored 39 runs while Krishna ended with figures of 59/3. The tall fast bowler was especially effective in the slog overs.
