Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh had a very proud cricketing career where he won trophies across all formats in different conditions. The serial winner hardly had any rough patch in his career, which includes both international and Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite winning the IPL with both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the former World Cup winner had an unforgettable season with his third IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The 41-year-old expressed his disappointment and how he and KKR were “never on the same page”.
“Things didn't work with me and KKR. Obviously, we had a lot of discussions going forward here and there but we didn't come to that point where they were happy with a few things and I wasn't happy with what I was getting. So that’s why we have decided to go with the rhyme and see what is to be done.
“I am not yet associated with KKR and probably it is difficult because we haven't been on the same page,” Harbhajan said in an exclusive chat with Sports Today.
The disappointment could be summed by the fact that, in his two-year stint as a player with the Kolkata-based franchise, he only played three matches. All those three appearances came in the 2021 edition, while he was part of the bench for the entire 2020 season. He also showed his disappointment when the talks surrounded for a reunion with KKR as a mentor or in a coaching role. The franchise wasn't on the same page while Harbhajan himself wasn't happy with his unknown role.
Talks have also resurfaced about his current role in the IPL as he hinted that he is in conversation with two unknown teams. The 41-year-old has hinted that he will only take the job if the right opportunity comes.
“In the future, I don't know whether I will be joining any other team or not, that remains to be seen. I am having a conversation with 1 or 2 teams, so let's see whether someone needs my services in the IPL, as everything comes for a price.
“If people can match up to my price that I am looking for, then I would love to work. Otherwise, I am more than happy with what I am doing and continue to do what I am doing right now,” Harbhajan asserted.
The Jalandhar-born player has a glorious list of achievements which includes IPL trophies, World Cups and also the now abolished Champions League T20 title. His services and experience could come in handy for any team as Harbhajan will have a lot to offer in the dugout as a mentor. He has also spoken highly about MI pair Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma, regarding them as the best bowler and batter respectively in the current generation, an unlikely hint towards his former franchise.
