India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma and young T20I batter Tilak Varma made gains in the ICC rankings despite not playing an international match for several months. Rohit became the no.2 ODI batter as Pakistan's Babar Azam continued to struggle in the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies. Travis Head's diminishing returns led to Tilak taking the second spot in ICC T20I rankings.
Head has registered scores of 5 and 2 against South Africa at home after missing the five-T20I series against West Indies. His rating dropped to 782 points. He slipped two places and is now fourth-ranked T20I batter in the world. The top spot belongs to India opener Abhishek Sharma, followed by Tilak and England's Phil Salt.
Brevis’ eye-opening jump, David and Green rise too
There was a new addition to the top 10 batters in T20I rankings. Australia's big-hitter Tim David continued his brilliant form. After a ton in West Indies, he has scored two consecutive fifties against the Proteas, justifying the promotion up the order. David's teammate Cameron Green made a six-place jump as well to take the 17th spot. Green has been in stupendous form in the T20Is.
South Africa’s 22-year-old Dewald Brevis made enormous gain, owing to record-breaking T20I ton on August 12. He jumped 80 places to take the 21st spot on the rankings.
Babar’s loss, Rohit’s gain
In the ODI rankings, Rohit took the second spot below Shubman Gill months ahead of his next ODI appearance on Australian soil. Pakistan's Babar has struggled for runs and his century drought continued on the Caribbean tour as well. After a 47-run knock in the series opener, he was dismissed for a duck in the second. Then, he departed for a single-digit score, contributing to the collapse in the decider as Pakistan were bowled out for 92.
Seales’ massive leap
West Indies pacer Jayden Seales benefitted from the record-breaking six wickets for 18 runs against Pakistan. He jumped 24 places to occupy the 33rd spot in the ICC ODI bowler rankings. Another West Indies bowler who made gains is left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie. He climbed five places to take 12th place. There were no changes in top 10.
Henry sits in Cummins’ spot
In the Test bowling department, the only change in top 10 was New Zealand's Matt Henry taking Australia captain pat Cummins' third spot on the back of 16 wickets at an average of 9.12 against Zimbabwe in the two-Test series, including a six-wicket haul.
