Yet another day, yet another record for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. On January 7, the 14-year-old became the youngest captain to score a century in youth ODIs. In the third and final game of the youth ODI series against South Africa, the opener scored 127 runs from just 74 balls.

The southpaw sent a message to all teams a week ahead of ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup 2026. He hit 10 sixes and nine fours during his knock at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.

South Africa skipper Muhammed Bulbulia won the toss and opted to bowl first. Opening the innings alongside Aaron George, Suryavanshi picked up pace against the new ball. He exploited the fielding restrictions and kept going hard at the Proteas bowlers. In the seventh over, he hit Michael Kruiskamp for two fours and two sixes. In the next over, he got to his fifty from 24 balls.

George batted at a rapid pace as well, getting to his half-century from 32 balls. Suryavanshi got a reprieve in the 13th over off Daniel Bosman's bowling as his catch was put down. He was batting on 58 then.

The Suryavanshi mayhem continued in the middle overs, cashing in on the second chance. He raced to his century from just 63 balls. He achieved the milestone on the first ball of the 23rd over.

The opening partnership was eventually broken in the 26th over by Ntando Soni. He went for the pull shot but got caught at deep square leg by Adnaan Lagadien. The openers shared a 227-run partnership.

George scores ton too

George went on to complete his hundred from 91 deliveries in the 29th over.

A few overs later, the opener was dismissed by Jason Rowles. He hit 16 fours in his 106-ball 118.

Suryavanshi gets closer to 1,000 youth ODI runs

This was Suryavanshi's third youth ODI century. He is nearing the 1,000 run-mark as well. From 18 innings, he has scored 973 runs already at an average of 54.05 and strike rate of 164.08.
