Story Highlights:

Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored his maiden List A ton.

Suryavanshi took the Arunachal Pradesh bowlers to cleaners on the opening day of VHT.

14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has scripted history again. Suryavanshi has smashed the second-fastest century in Vijay Hazare Trophy history. On December 24, Bihar opener reached his century from just 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 plate group clash. He became the youngest to reach the three figures in a List A game.

The century came after he failed to convert a good start into a big score in the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan.

The record for fastest Vijay Hazare Trophy belongs to Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh. In the previous season, Anmolpreet walked to bat at no.3 and scored a 35-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh. He ended up scoring an unbeaten 45-ball 115 in the successful run chase of 165.

No holding back Suryavanshi

After Bihar skipper Sakibul Gani won the toss and opted to bat first, Suryavanshi exploited the fielding restrictions. He reached his half-century from just 25 balls. Mahrour focused on rotating the strike. In the 10th over, Bihar crossed the 100-run mark. Suryavanshi reached his century from 36 balls and continued to hit big after Mahrour departed.

Suryavanshi shared an opening partnership of 158 runs from 14.3 overs with Mangal Mahrour. Techi Neri broke the partnership. Mahrour scored 33 runs from 43 deliveries.

Suryavanshi reached his 150 from just 59 balls. He missed his double century by 10 runs. In the 27th over, Neri broke the partnership once again. The southpaw hit 15 sixes and 16 fours during his stay at the crease. He faced 84 deliveries to score 190 runs. He missed out on breaking the record for fastest List A double century held by New Zealand's Chad Bowes.

However, he succeeded in breaking the record for highest individual score by a Bihar batter in Vijay Hazare Trophy. The previous record belonged to MD Rahmatullah who scored an unbeaten 156 off 103 balls Bihar in the 2018-19 edition.

Gaikwad's record remains unbroken

The 15 sixes he hit are joint second-most by a batter in an innings. He holds the second position alongside Tamil Nadu's Narayan Jagadeesan who smashed 15 sixes in his record-breaking 277 in 2022. Coincidentally, it came against Arunachal Pradesh as well. The record for most sixes in a Vijay Hazare Trophy knock belongs to Maharashtra's Ruturaj Gaikwad. He hit 16 sixes in his unbeaten 220 against Uttar Pradesh in 2022.

Suryavanshi's 3rd ton in December

Suryavanshi started the month with an unbeaten 61-ball 108 against Maharashtra in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 at Eden Gardens. In Ayush Mhatre-led team's Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 campaign opener against hosts UAE, he scored 171 runs from 95 balls. He scored a fifty against Malaysia as well but could not get going in two clashes against Pakistan including the final and the semifinal against Sri Lanka.

Suryavanshi in previous Vijay Hazare season

This is Suryavanshi's seventh List A appearance. He had scored 132 runs from six appearances, including a high score of 71 which came against Baroda in the previous season.
