Kohli's absence from England Series
While initially included in Team India for the India-England Test series, Kohli withdrew citing personal reasons just before its commencement. Expected to return for the third Test, Kohli's absence persisted as he welcomed his second child on February 15, compelling him to opt out of the entire five-match series against England.
Captain Rohit Sharma and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) backed Kohli’s decision to take time off from the game and put his family first.
“If somebody is asking for a personal leave in 15 years, then it is his right to ask for it. Virat is not the kind of player who would ask for leave without any reason. We must back and trust our players,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said before the Rajkot Test on the sidelines of an event.
Kohli’s expected return to the field
The 35-year-old is unlikely to return for the ongoing Test series against England. He will be seen in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) donning the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) colours next month.
