The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma said that former India captain Virat Kohli should take inspiration from Mumbai cricketers and play for Delhi in domestic cricket. Kohli is currently facing a lot of criticism as he failed to perform in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The modern-day great who holds a great red ball record against Australia scored just 190 runs in five Test match series against the Baggy Greens.  

Virat and Rishabh's names are on Delhi's probable squad for the last two rounds of the Ranji Trophy fixture.

“Both Virat and Rishabh’s names are in the probable list. The Ranji Trophy camp is underway,” (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma told The Indian Express. “Virat should take inspiration from the Mumbai cricketers and play for Delhi in domestic cricket, whenever he is available.

 

“See in Mumbai, there has always been a culture where their India players turn up for Ranji matches whenever available. It is missing in the North, especially in Delhi.

 

“The BCCI has also mentioned players should participate in domestic cricket. I feel Virat and Rishabh should play at least one game, but I don’t think they will,” he added.

 

 

Kohli has played 23 Ranji matches where he scored 1574 runs at an average of 50.77 with five centuries. He last played a Ranji match in 2012/13 season. 

Kohli was recently spotted with his wife and Kids in Mumbai the former India captain will most likely to feature in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England which is scheduled to start from February 6. The ODI series against England will be the last assignment for Rohit Sharma-led India before the Champions Trophy 2025 which is scheduled to start from February 19. 

India's next red-ball assignment will be five Test match series against England in England which will start from June 20. On the other hand, the second phase of the Ranji Trophy is scheduled to start from January 23 where Delhi will face Saurashtra at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
