Priyansh Arya falls victim to a bizarre run-out after Dickwella's foot appears to block his bat near the crease.

Ruturaj Gaikwad slams a brilliant 101 as India A recover to post 277/6 in Dambulla.

India A is currently playing against Sri Lanka A in the 50-over tri-series opener in Dambulla on Tuesday, June 9. However, India A's vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Priyansh Arya got involved in a comical run-out because of lack of communication and Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella mistakenly stopped Arya's bat from reaching the crease.

Hilarious run-out

The incident took place on the last delivery of the 13th over. Ruturaj pushed a wide ball towards deep point and the pair comfortably completed the first run. Sensing an opportunity for second, Priyansh Arya responded and moved down the pitch, but backed out and signalled Gaikwad to go back. By then, however, the CSK skipper had already crossed well beyond the halfway mark, leaving him stranded.

With both Priyansh Arya and Gaikwad almost level while scrambling back towards the striker's end, the laws of cricket said that the batter who grounded their bat first would remain not-out. As the duo stretched their bats towards the crease, Priyansh's bat seemed to be obstructed momentarily by wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella's foot while he reached out to collect the throw from the deep. The split-second delay proved to be costly, as Gaikwad managed to make his ground a fraction of a second earlier, leaving Priyansh short of the crease.

Upon realising that both players had nearly reached the striker's end, Dickwella showcased brilliant presence of mind by quickly throwing the ball to the bowler's end. The bowler then completed the run-out by removing the bails. Had Priyansh's bat not been checked by Dickwella's foot during the dive, he might have made his ground in time, which would have left Gaikwad as the batter short of the crease.

At the end of the first innings, India managed to post 277/6, powered by vice captain Rutraj Gaikwad's sublime 101 off 114 balls. Meanwhile, captain Tilak Varma also contributed with a rusty 60 runs off 97 balls, helping India come out of a batting collapse.
