India batting great Virat Kohli paid a heartfelt tribute to the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15, 2025. India is currently celebrating their 79th anniversary of independence. India gained freedom from British colonial rule after a long struggle on August 15, 1947.

Kohli took to his Instagram to share a story paying tribute to the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces for standing with unwavering courage.

"Today, we smile in freedom because they stood with unwavering courage. We salute and honor the sacrifices of our heroes on this joyous Independence Day. Proud to be Indian. Jai Hind" Virat Kohli captioned. 

 

 

Kohli is arguably one of the best batters who have represented India in cricket. Having already retired from the T20Is after India's T20 World Cup 2024 win, where the Rohit Sharma-led side defeated South Africa in the final in Barbados. The 37-year-old recently announced his retirement from the longest format of the game after failing to perform in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He managed to score 190 runs in five Test matches against Australia. The batting maestro represented India in 123 Test matches, batting in 210 innings and amassing 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85. His highest score in the format is an unbeaten 254*.

Kohli's last international outing came in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where unbeaten India defeated New Zealand in the title decider at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai, where he scored 218 runs in five outings, including an unbeaten century against Pakistan. 

Kohli's upcoming international assignment will be upcoming ODI series against Australia which is scheduled to start from October 19.
