West Indies’ explosive opener Evin Lewis has reversed his retirement from international cricket, a decision he took after not making it to T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Lewis has made himself available for the Regional Four-day competition. He will represent Trinidad in the domestic first-class tournament.
Lewis will be playing a first-class match for the first time in nearly nine years. From 22 red-ball games, he has 1,229 runs at an average of 30.72. So far, he has a century and eight fifties in the format.
Lewis has been playing in local red-ball tournament, Premiership One League 2025. Last year, he had scored a double century from 170 balls, featuring 19 sixes for Patriots against Yorkshire. He also scored a double ton against Merryboys in TTCB Premiership Division 1 this season.
Emrit happy with Lewis’ form but tough decision awaits
Trinidad coach Rayad Emrit is pleased to have the services of Lewis. However, he has said that there is competition for an opening spot and he will have to make a tough call.
“Evin Lewis ... has made himself available to the national team,” said Trinidad coach Emrit.
“He’s another one that’s just a good sign for us, who has been getting runs. (Cephas) Cooper, one of the mainstays of our batters last year. It’s a good headache to have. It’s no secret that somebody is going to be left out. It’s going to be a tough call for the selectors but it’s a call that we have to make.”
It will be interesting to see whether he makes it to West Indies' Test squad for home series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Lewis’ last T20I and ODI appearances
Lewis' last appearance on the international stage was against Afghanistan earlier this year. He registered scores of 4 and 13 in the series and was later dropped from the side.
He has two centuries and 13 fifties in T20Is but lacks consistency. His last ODI appearance was against Pakistan in August 2025.
