Saransh Jain is making waves in the world of cricket as he became the oldest player to make his international debut fir India. The 33-year-old all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh received his maiden Test cap from Ravindra Jadeja ahead of his debut in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Sunday.
It all came after Washington Sundar was forced to be ruled out following injury. Additionally, he received Kuldeep Yadav, who was withdrawn due to an infection. Meanwhile, Jain is the oldest Test debutant in the 21st century at 33y 145d. He has now surpassed Saba Karim, who made his debut in the format at 32y 362d against Bangladesh in Dhaka in 2000. All about Saransh Jain, India’s oldest Test debutant
Saransh Subodh Jain, simply known as Saransh Jain, is an Indian cricketer who was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on 31 March 1993. The 33-year-old is an all-rounder who is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm bowler.
Jain made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in December 2014 in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy. It was followed by his List A debut in February 2017 in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The right-arm off-spinner spent a month and a half bowling in the nets of the Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders. He has been playing domestic cricket since 2014 and went on to impress everyone with his bowling in the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals in the 2021-22 season.
Jain ended the season with 13 wickets across the quarterfinals, semifinals and final as per a report on Cricbuzz. This was followed by his stunning performance in the 2023-24 season, where he bagged 35 wickets in eight games, 27 wickets in eight in 2023-24,21 wickets in seven in 2024-25, and 30 wickets in seven in the last season.
According to the aforementioned report, Jain has now bagged 188 wickets in 54 first-class matches. Talking about his batting, he recorded a first-innings half-century in the 2021-22 Ranji season to help Madhya Pradesh win the title against Mumbai.
