WI vs UAE: King continues good form as West Indies clinch 2nd ODI by 78 runs, take unassailable 2-0 lead

On the back of a solid all-round performance, West Indies defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 78 runs in the second ODI at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on June 6 (Tuesday). As a result, the Men in Maroon took an unassailable 2-0 lead over UAE in the three-match series having won the first ODI by seven wickets.

King, Charles stroke half-centuries

Brandon King, who scored a match-winning century in the first ODI, continued his good form and played a 64-run knock with the help of four fours and as many sixes on Tuesday. His opening partner Johnson Charles stroked 63 runs off 47 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. King and Charles combined for a 129-run alliance for the opening wicket in just 17 overs.

The middle order failed to capitalise on the start given by openers as West Indies lost their way after a solid beginning to the innings. Shamarh Brooks (20), Keacy Carty (32), captain Shai Hope (23) and Kavem Hodge (26) all got starts but none of them converted those starts into a substantial score. Odean Smith played a handy cameo of 37 runs off 24 balls that pushed West Indies' total to 306/10 in 49.5 overs.

For UAE, Zahoor Khan was the pick of all bowlers as he bagged three wickets. Ali Naseer, Sanchit Sharma and Afzal Khan bagged two wickets each while Adhitya Shetty chipped in with a wicket.

Top order falters, lower order saves UAE from embarrassment

In their run chase, UAE's top five batters were sent back to the pavilion for just 95 runs on the board. No. 6 batter Basil Hameed (49) and No.7 batter Naseer (57) combined for an 80-run stand while No.8 batter Afzal Khan chipped in with a knock of 25 runs as UAE managed to 228/7 in 50 overs.

For West Indies, Hodge and Roston Chase bagged two wickets each while Yannic Cariah, Smith and Akeem Jordan chipped in with a wicket each.
