RCB's Tim David smashes record-breaking 37-ball 102 leads Australia to 216-run chase in 16.1 overs, take 3-0 lead in series
Tim David (R) of Australia celebrates his century and teammate Mitchell Owen (L) cheer him on during the third T20I match between West Indies and Australia at Warner Park Sporting Complex in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, on July 25, 2025.

Story Highlights:

Shai Hope became first West Indies batter to score T20I century against Australia.

Tim David scored the fastest T20I century for Australia.

David also smashed the fastest T20I fifty for Australia.

Australia's designated finisher was promoted up the order and he justified the move with a rampaging unbeaten 37-ball 102 to help visitors chase down 215 without breaking a sweat. West Indies captain Shai Hope scored a century but it went in vain as Australia chased down the target with 23 balls to spare, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series.

David finished the run chase with a boundary and completed his maiden T20I century. This is the third-fastest century for a Test-playing nation. Also, it is the fastest for an Australian batter in T20Is.

Blistering start for hosts

In the first game of St Kitts leg of the series, Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first. Brandon King and Shai Hope crossed the ropes often. Glenn Maxwell could not provide the breakthrough and was hit for two sixes and a four in the sixth over. West Indies were 66 for no loss after powerplay overs. In the ninth over, Hope reached his fifty from 26 balls. At the halfway stage, West Indies were 106 for no loss. King hit Adam Zampa for a four to reach his second fifty of the series.

Hope hits ton but West Indies lose pace

Mitchell Owen broke the partnership with King's wicket. He hit three fours and six sixes in his 36-ball 62. Zampa took a beating again as Hope hit the leg-spinner for a four and two consecutive sixes. Zampa's only wicket was Shimron Hetmyer who departed for a single-digit score. Sherfane Rutheford struggled to score quickly. Rutherford was run out for a 13-ball 12. In the same over, Hope reached his ton from 55 balls. In the final over, Rovman Powell lost his wicket to Nathan Ellis. Romario Shepherd hit two fours off the last two balls to take West Indies to 214/4. Hope remained unbeaten for 102 runs from 57 balls, featuring eight fours and six sixes.

Australia lose early wickets

Debutant Jediah Blades did not get off to a good start as he conceded 16 runs in the opening over. In the third over, Marsh and Maxwell were involved in a mix-up, leading to the latter's wicket for a seven-ball 20. Josh Inglis hit two fours and a six before falling to Shepherd. In the sixth over, skipper Marsh's innings came to an end. He scored 22 runs from 19 overs. After powerplay overs, Australia were 65/3. David did not take much time to settle while Cameron Green struggled to find boundaries. In the ninth over, Green became Shepherd's second victim of the day.

David becomes Goliath!

In the 10th over, David went berserk and hit Motie for a four, followed by four monstrous sixes. Australia were 120/4 at the halfway stage. In the next over, David reached his fifty from just 16 balls, fastest for Australia in T20Is. Roston Chase was introduced into the attack and David hit him for three sixes and a four. Meanwhile, Owen chipped in with boundaries. In the 14th over, Shepherd created a chance but King dropped the catch at deep mid-wicket. On the first ball of 17th over, David hit a four to reach his century from 37 balls. Australia chased down the massive target with six wickets in hand and 23 balls to spare.
