The Indian women’s cricket team players continue to make history at the 2026 Asian Games. This time, young Indian left-arm spinner Shree Charani has etched her name in the record books on Thursday. She has become the fastest Indian bowler to reach 50 wickets in women’s T20 Internationals.
Women’s Asia Cup: Shree Charani scripts history with rapid 50 T20I wickets
The 22-year-old from Andhra Pradesh achieved the landmark in her 29th match during India’s Women’s Asia Cup 2026 semi-final victory over Bangladesh in Dubai. She dismissed opener Juairiya Ferdous, caught behind by Richa Ghosh, in the sixth over of the chase. Charani finished with figures of 1 for 14 from four overs, including a maiden, as India restricted Bangladesh to 109 for 7 while defending 149 for 6 and booked a place in the final.
Charani’s feat makes her the joint-second fastest bowler overall to 50 women’s T20I wickets, behind only China’s Mengting Liu in 28 matches. Meanwhile, India will now face either Sri Lanka or Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, with Charani’s form providing a significant boost to the defending champions.
