The Women's Premier League (WPL) player auction is set to be staged on December 9 in Mumbai, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo. If the report is to be believed, all the five franchises involved in WPL will have the luxury of using an extra amount of Rs 1.5 crore apart from the purse remaining from last year and through player release. In the inaugural WPL auction, the franchises were allocated a purse of Rs 12 crore.
Each franchise can have a maximum of 30 players
Each of the five franchises can have a roster comprising 30 players and not more than. A franchise is only allowed to have nine overseas players in their squad. In a players retention list that was released earlier, a total of 60 players were retained by the five franchises while 29 players were let go.
Purse remaining with each franchise
Heading into the upcoming auction, the Gujarat Giants (GG) will have the biggest purse (Rs 5.95 crore) and the franchise would be eager to fill their roster with talented players. Last season, Gujarat endured a horrendous campaign and finished last in the points table.
UP Warriorz (UPW) have Rs 4 crore remaining in their purse and the franchise only has five slots to fill, including just one overseas slot. It would be interesting to see how UPW approach the auction as they will have a decent amount of money to fork out.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have a purse of Rs 3.35 crore from which they would look to fill their roster. They have seven roster slots to fill including three overseas players.
With only three slots remaining to be filled, the Delhi Capitals (DC) can use their remaining purse of Rs 2.25 crore to secure the services of a marquee player.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have a purse of Rs 2.1 crore which they can use to fill five slots remaining to be filled in their roster.
