With the Indian team management sticking to the idea of backing players, many questions have been raised on the exclusion of certain players. While it was Sarfaraz Khan with a brilliant batting display to start with, now it's Yashasvi Jaiswal with multiple centuries in the Irani Cup game.
Yashasvi has been performing consistently for the last two seasons and with another brilliant performance he has sent another reminder to the national selectors. After an impressive Ranji Trophy season with Mumbai, Yashasvi was named in the Rest of India squad for Irani Cup. Despite Yashasvi's 315-run season, the focus was on the like Mayank Agarwal, Abhimanyu Easwaran and other capped players. But the youngster made it clear why he is the player to watch out for.
With more than 300 runs in two innings, Yashasvi along with Sarafaraz Khan are the two players that Indian team management would be keeping a close eye on. To start the game, the left-hander scored 213 runs in just 259 balls in the first innings. To strengthen his case further, he smashed another ton (144 off 157) in the second innings proving his solidity.
It isn't just the runs he scored but the circumstances behind that ton came in that prove his ability to handle pressure at the highest level. While the wickets were tumbling around him, Yashasvi held one end and scored a brilliant century before the Rest of India could surpass the 200-run mark.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan have been consistently performing in the domestic circuit and a national call-up is round the corner. Sarfaraz isn't playing Irani Cup due to a finger injury but his Ranji performance has proved why he deserves a place in the Indian team.
Yashasvi on the other hand was part of the India A squad during the Bangladesh series where he scored a ton in the first innings and fell for 12 in the second. In addition to Yashasvi and Sarfaraz another player who is waiting for his due is Abhimanyu Easwaran. The right-handed batsman led India A against Bangladesh A and slammed back-to-back centuries. He hit a ton in the first innings of the Irani Cup as well.
