Yashasvi Jaiswal has sought NOC to leave Mumbai and play for Goa.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently playing for RR in IPL 2025.

India's young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal's relationship with Mumbai Ranji captain Ajinkya Rahane had reportedly gone sour over the last few years, and this has become the big reason why he has decided to switch his domestic team from Mumbai to Goa. As per IndiaToday, Jaiswal, who is not happy with the management of Mumbai cricket, even kicked Rahane's kitbag in anger during the  2025 Ranji Trophy clash against Jammu & Kashmir after feeling wrongly targeted by the captain and coach Omkar Salvi following Mumbai's defeat in the group stage.

Jasiwal failed to perform for Mumbai as he just managed to score 4 and 26 in that match as Mumbai got out for 120 and 290 respectively, to concede a shock five-wicket defeat. The report further stated that Rahane and Salvi questioned Jaiswal’s ‘commitment’ after the match, which left the young opener ‘fuming’. The report also said that Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil’s statement about the defeat made Jaiswal feel that he was being targeted.

“I’m still upset at the J&K defeat, which I feel was our worst ever," Patil had said. “To accommodate the India players in that match, we had to deprive a few talented youngsters. Mumbai needs players who can perform and make the side win games, something which was missing in that match. The India players need to realise it’s not just about being ‘available’ for that game. The culture of Mumbai cricket has always been about giving your 100% when you are playing for Mumbai."

Another main reason behind Jasiwal's switch was constant questioning about his shot selection two seasons ago when he was playing for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Jaiswal on Goa switch

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal said that a ‘new opportunity’ and ‘leadership role’ at Goa was his motivation.

“Goa has thrown me a new opportunity, and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India, and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to take them deep into the tournament." This was an opportunity which came my way, and I just took it. It was a very tough decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA," Jaiswal told IndianExpress.

Both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ajinkya Rahane are currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), respectively.

Earlier this year, Jaiswal was left out of India's Champions Trophy 2025 squad and included in the list of non-travelling substitutes. He was again drafted into the Mumbai Ranji squad ahead of their semifinal clash with Vidarbha on February 17. However, the left-handed batter opted out of the match on the eve of the game after he cited pain in his ankle.
