Former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan will contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) named Yusuf Pathan among the 42 party candidates who will contest the upcoming elections. Yusuf Pathan, who was part of the Indian T20 World Cup-winning team in 2007 and the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team, was announced as TMC candidate from Baharampur.
Yusuf Pathan's cricket career
Yusuf Pathan is a two-time World Cup winner with Team India. Having burst into the scene with his explosive batting and handy off-spinners, Yusuf garnered instant attention for his rare talent and was soon fast-tracked into the Indian team.
Yusuf began his India career in the T20 World Cup during the country's match against arch-rivals. He later went on the play in the final against Pakistan as well with Virender Sehwag missing out with an injury. Overall, Yusuf represented India in 22 T20Is and scored 236 runs at a strike rate of 146.58. With the ball he picked 13 wickets.
Part of ODI World Cup-winning squad
Yusuf was also part of the star-studded India team that won the ODI World Cup at home in 2011. Yusuf played 6 matches for India in the World Cup and scored 74 runs. He also bagged one wicket during the triumphant campaign. Overall, Yusuf played 57 ODIs for India and scored 810 runs with the help of three half-centuries and two tons. With the ball, he bagged 33 wickets.
A 3-time IPL champion
Yusuf Pathan played a key role in making Rajasthan Royals the champions of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) back in 2008. After switching bases from Rajasthan to Kolkata, Yusuf won two more IPL crowns with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In his illustrious IPL career, Yusuf scored 3,204 runs in 174 matches with the help of 13 half-centuries and one century. He registered a strike rate of 142.97 in his IPL career.
With the ball, Yusuf bagged 42 wickets at an economy rate of 7.40.
