The year 2023 witnessed Shubman Gill's meteoric ascent in ODIs.

Yuvraj Singh, a legend in the realm of Indian cricket, recently lavished praise upon the young prodigy, Shubman Gill. According to Singh, Gill possesses the innate talent and potential to rise as the most eminent cricketing star of his generation.

The year 2023 witnessed Gill's meteoric ascent in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Showcasing extraordinary prowess with the bat, Gill is the top run-scorer in ODIs this year, with a towering total of 1230 runs in a mere 20 innings. His enviable batting average touched 72.35, complemented by an aggressive strike rate of 105.03.

A highlight of his scintillating form was evident during the Asia Cup 2023. Against Bangladesh, Gill crafted a masterful century – his fifth in ODIs. This monumental inning marked him as the inaugural player to cross the 1000-run threshold in ODIs for 2023. Adding another feather to his cap, Gill became the maiden cricketer to etch five international centuries in that year.

Throughout this period, Gill's consistency at the crease remained unswerving. His scoreboard glittered with a plethora of high scores, including a majestic double century, four emphatic centuries, and five pivotal half-centuries. In comparison, no other cricketer came close to touching the 1000-run mark that year, underscoring Gill's unparalleled supremacy.

In a candid chat with The Week, Yuvraj Singh highlighted Gill's unwavering dedication. Emphasizing Gill's industrious nature, Singh noted, "From his young days, Gill has always put in quadruple the effort than most." At just 24, Gill, in Yuvraj's eyes, has the potential to define cricket for this era.

"Shubman Gill has the potential to become the best player of this generation. The guy works hard. Since he was 19-20, his attitude has always been like that. He works four times harder than a normal guy since he was a kid. Whatever I have worked with him, he can be the player of this era," said Yuvraj.

In addition, Yuvraj, with his seasoned cricketing insight, believes that Gill is poised to make a significant mark in challenging international arenas, particularly in countries like Australia, South Africa, and England.

As Shubman Gill's trajectory continues to soar, the global cricket fraternity eagerly anticipates the records he's set to shatter next.
