Legendary Indian pacer Zaheer Khan was recently asked to select his 'Fab Four' fast bowlers. He included two Indian bowlers in his list i.e Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
Zaheer Khan's Fast-Bowling 'Fab Four'
These two pacers have been instrumental in India's success across all formats. Shami, currently out injured, has been ably replaced by Bumrah, who has taken on the responsibility of leading the bowling attack. Mohammed Shami's last appearance was in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, where he delivered an exceptional performance, claiming 24 wickets in 7 matches. Bumrah also excelled in the tournament, but unfortunately, India fell short of winning the trophy.
Bumrah's role in India's T20 World Cup victory
Bumrah played a crucial role in ending India's title drought, delivering outstanding performances in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. He claimed 15 wickets, was awarded the Player of the Tournament, and helped India win the ICC title after a decade.
Bumrah is currently participating in the home Test series against Bangladesh, while Mohammed Shami is recovering from an injury.
Zaheer Khan has expressed his admiration for Bumrah and Shami, naming them as the first two bowlers in his 'Fab Four' list. The remaining two spots will be filled by either Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins, or Josh Hazlewood.
"India have been performing exceptionally well and have been part of two World Test Championship finals. India have done well consistently in all conditions. So, I would surely pick Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in my Fab Four. Apart from them, it would be Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood. Pat Cummins is also one of the contenders. These are the four or five bowlers who have made an impact in Test cricket consistently," Zaheer told Cricbuzz.
Zaheer Khan on Gautam Gambhir's coaching potential
Zaheer Khan expressed his views on the new Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir. He praised Gambhir's passion for the game and his competitive spirit. Khan believes that these qualities made Gambhir a successful player and will also make him a successful coach.
"When you talk about Gautam Gambhir, the hunger to win is very evident and he is very passionate about cricket. These were the same qualities that made him a good cricketer, and he will look at the game in the same way as a coach, too. His playing style and the way he played cricket, you can also see that in his coaching. Yes, you will improve as you spend more time there, but the basic coaching style is very similar to your playing style," India's World Cup-winner concluded.
