The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for injured Matheesha Pathirana in Sri Lanka's T20 World Cup 2026 squad. The island nation has already sealed their berth for the Super 8 of the mega event after registering a dominating eight-wicket win against Australia.
Who Pathirana got injured?
Pathirana ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026 after getting an injury during Sri Lanka’s match against Australia in Pallekele. He pulled up while bowling his fourth delivery, clutching his left leg in pain. The 23-year-old was helped off the field and did not return to complete his spell.
“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for Matheesha Pathirana in the Sri Lanka squad,” the ICC said in a release.

Dilshan Madushanka has represented Sri Lanka in 15 T20Is, where he picked up 15 wickets. His last T20I outing came against India on August 31. His memorable outing came in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he finished as Sri Lanka's highest wicket-taker with 21 scalps at an average of 25.00.
