South Africa have added Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs to their squad

South Africa have decided to add both Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs to their squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The two have replaced the injured Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira from the squad. While de Zorzi is yet to recover from the hamstring tear that he had sustained in December, Ferreira had recently fractured his shoulder during a match in the SA20.

There are still three other South African players, who are yet to receive the fitness clearance to play the 2026 T20 World Cup. David Miller is suspected to have picked up an adductor injury and will not be featuring in Paarl Royals' clash against Johannesburg Super Kings. Lungi Ngidi had bowled just two overs for Pretoria Capitals in the qualifier against Sunrisers Eastern Cape while Dewald Brevis had suffered a finger injury while playing for the Capitals in the same match. It remains to be seen if these players will be cleared to compete in the tournament.

Rickelton and Stubbs in SA20

Rickelton has been in top form in the ongoing season of the SA20. He has scored a total of 337 runs in 10 matches for MI Cape Town, including two brilliant hundreds. His performances just couldn't be ignored by the selectors and he has now been included in the squad.

On the other hand, Stubbs has had an average campaign so far in the SA20. He has scored just 129 runs in 10 matches for the Southern Easter Cape. However, he had been a part of South Africa's T20I set-up for quite some time and the selectors have decided to show faith in him.

South Africa's next assignment

Meanwhile, there are many other South African players who have been picked in the squad for the T20 World Cup and are playing the ongoing season of SA20. The likes of Rickelton, Aiden Markram, Jason Smith, George Linde, Corbin Bosch and Kagiso Rabada will assemble in a camp on Friday. They will start their preparations for South Africa's upcoming four-match T20I series against West Indies that will commence from January 27. This will be the team's final assignment before they depart for the T20 World Cup.
