West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph scripted history in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026's dead rubber game against Italy at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Joseph became the first cricketer to take four catches and claim four wickets in a T20 innings (men and women's cricket).

Joseph bagged four wickets for 30 runs in his quota of four overs, his best bowling figures in T20Is. His four-fer, Matthew Forde’s three-fer helped West Indies beat Italy by 42 runs and reach the Super 8 stage unbeaten.

Defending a total of 165/6, Joseph got the wickets of Italy skipper Harry Manenti, Grant Stewart, Thomas Draca and Ali Hasan. Italy were bowled out for 123 in 18 overs. Joseph also took the catches of Anthony Mosca, Syed Naqvi, JJ Smuts and Gian Meade, helping him enter the record books.

Joseph in elite fielders’ list

Joseph also entered the list of non-wicketkeepers with most catches in a T20 match. He is fifth on the list featuring former West Indies captain Daren Sammy, South Africa skipper Aiden Markram, Australia's Glenn Maxwell and Scotland's George Munsey. Also, he is only the third to do it in T20 World Cup history. In the previous edition, Markram achieved the feat against Bangladesh. Before Markram, it was Sammy against Ireland in the 2010 edition.

Joseph, Holder lead the charts

Joseph is currently West Indies' joint-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing competition. Joseph has taken seven wickets from four games at an average of 17.71. His economy rate is 7.75 runs per over. He shares the spot with Holder who has claimed seven wickets from four games at an average of 15.71. Overall, USA’s Shadley van Schalkwyk leads the charts with 13 wickets. USA have been knocked out of the tournament. 

Joseph will be next seen in action the two-time T20 World Champions go up against Zimbabwe at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on February 23. West Indies' other two Super 8 opponents are South Africa and India.
