BCCI has revised its player fitness protocols.
Following recent issues encountered during tours in England and Ireland, the BCCI has introduced new fitness assessments to ensure players meet higher fitness standards. The prominent change involves replacing the traditional Yo-Yo test with Bronco test as the primary fitness evaluation. The Bronco test requires players to run back and forth over set distances multiple times within a strict time frame, assessing their endurance and speed comprehensively. Additionally, the Centre of Excellence has instituted a 2-kilometer running test with a 9 to 10-minute benchmark, which offers a lenient standard compared to global expectations for fast bowlers and other players. These changes came about due to exposed mismanagement and inconsistencies in applying fitness parameters to players.
