India wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel smashed his maiden Test century during the first Test match against West Indies at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Jurel, who made his Test debut against England in 2024, was playing the sixth Test match of his career. The 24-year-old completed his Test century in 190 balls.
The Uttar Pradesh-born wicketkeeper batter has scored 255 runs in his five Test outings. His last Test outing came during the fifth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 after Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the series due to a foot injury he got in the fourth Test. However, Jurel was behind the wickets in the fourth Test match after Pant's injury.
Jurel-Pant creates history
Jurel's ton is the third by a designated Indian wicketkeeper in 2025, with Rishabh Pant scoring the other two earlier this year in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. This is now the most centuries by Indian wicketkeepers in a single calendar year, and also the joint second-most by any team, just behind South Africa’s record of four in 2013.
Earlier, KL Rahul, who was promoted as an opener after Rohit Sharma's Test retirement, also smashed his 11th Test century in the same clash. Notably, it was his second Test ton in India. The veteran completed his hundred run-mark on 190 balls, smashing 12 fours. With this century, the Karnataka batter ended his nine-year-long wait to score his second Test century in India.
India's dominance on Day 2 of 1st Test
Coming back to the match, KL Rahul's century and Shubman Gill's half-century, followed by Dhruv Jurel's maiden Test ton, helped India to go past a 200-run lead in the opening Test of the two-match series. While writing this copy, Jurel is playing in 113 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja scored 86 runs. The veteran all-rounder is also reaching his sixth century in the longest format of the game.
