Team India is set to kick off a high-voltage campaign at Women's T20 World Cup 2026 with a blockbuster opening match. On June 14, they will face off against their arch-rivals, Pakistan, in a clash that always carries immense expectations. Ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, batter Jemimah Rodrigues opened up about the unique outside pressure that inevitably builds up around this storied rivalry.
Stage set for India vs Pakistan Women's T20 World Cup 2026 clash
Illustrating just how deeply the public invests in this fixture, Rodrigues shared that even her building's watchman makes it a point to tell her that they must defeat Pakistan. While there is no denying the intense scrutiny and weight of expectation surrounding an India-Pakistan match, Rodrigues is no stranger to the spotlight. As a seasoned campaigner, she has navigated these high-stakes situations multiple times in her career and is well-equipped to handle the noise.
“I remember when I played my first India-Pakistan game. In the dressing room, Harman di (Harmanpreet Kaur) actually speak to us, saying, 'Let's not deny it. There is pressure from the outside because we know the history of India versus Pakistan. We know what the fans expect," Rodrigues told JoiStar.

Jemimah Rodrigues talks about pressure-loaded IND vs PAK showdown
The star batter shared a lighthearted yet telling anecdote about her building's watchman, who earnestly urged her that Team India must defeat Pakistan. Rather than feeling burdened, Jemimah Rodrigues understands where this intensity comes from; she recognizes that the watchman, much like millions of other Indian cricket fans, deeply loves the historic rivalry and naturally wants to feel a part of the journey.
“Even my building watchman says, 'Lose to anyone, but not against Pakistan.' That is the kind of pressure because people love cricket. They love this rivalry,” she added.
However, Rodrigues emphasised that the team's vision extends far beyond winning a single high-profile match against their arch-rivals. The ultimate goal is to conquer the entire tournament and lift the World Cup trophy, a historic moment she claims the squad has been dreaming about constantly. The expectations will be exceptionally high for the Indian Women’s cricket team this time around, especially as they enter the tournament carrying the confidence and prestige of being the reigning champions of the previous ODI World Cup.
“Lifting that trophy! This morning, we visualised it. We do that as a team. That is the theme of our team. We did it during the 2025 World Cup. Amol Sir (Amol Muzumdar) has made it a point for us to do it here as well, and we'll continue doing that,” the batter told the media ahead of the India vs Pakistan match.
After locking horns with Pakistan, India will take on Netherland on June 17. They will then clash with South Africa on June 21 before meeting Bangladesh and Australia on June 25 and June 28.
