India have suffered a huge setback as their star spinner Shreyanka Patil gave them a massive injury blow during Women's T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Netherlands on June 17. Shreyanka sustained a serious right ankle injury in middle of the India versus Netherlands match in Headingley. The unfortunate incident occurred in the sixth over of the match. While attempting to collect the ball from mid-on, Shreyanka slipped on the turf and landed awkwardly on her ankle, leaving her in immense pain as her concerned teammates quickly rushed to surround her.
Injured Shreyanka Patil stretchered off the field
The severity of the injury was immediately evident as she had to be stretchered off the field, visibly devastated and covering her face in disappointment throughout the ordeal. In her absence, opening batter Shafali Verma stepped up to complete the remaining deliveries of the over.

This setback is a cruel twist of fate for the young cricketer, who has endured a relentless string of fitness struggles. Shreyanka had only recently returned to competitive action for RCB in the WPL earlier this year, following a grueling 14-month spell on the sidelines. That prolonged absence was triggered by a fractured finger suffered against Pakistan in July 2024, which was later compounded by severe shin issues in both legs and a fractured left thumb, making this latest injury a heartbreaking hurdle in her comeback journey.
Talking about the match, India put on a clinical show to pulverize the Netherlands by 95 runs in their Group A match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026. The dominant victory marks India's second successive win in the ongoing tournament, successfully building on the momentum from their convincing triumph against Pakistan in the campaign opener.
India first rode on Smriti Mandhana's 47-ball 74 and Shafali Verma's 38-ball 55 to post a big total of 209/5. In reply, Shree Charani's 4/19 and Shafali's 3/20 helped India wrap up Netherlands' innings for 114.
