Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma became the costliest buy of the WPL 2026 auction

All the five franchises made the best use of Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction held in New Delhi to bolster their respective squads for the upcoming season which is set to start from January 9. A total of 276 cricketers, including 82 overseas and 194 Indian stars, went under the hammer. Out of the 73 available slots, the five franchises combined to make 67 purchases, ensuring that almost every team maximised their opportunity to acquire fresh talent for the upcoming season.

The action-packed auction saw the UP Warriorz (UPW) emerge as the busiest team, and they secured the evening's costliest purchase, Indian star Deepti Sharma for a massive Rs 3.20 crore. This price places Deepti as the second-highest Indian player in WPL history, trailing only Smriti Mandhana by Rs 20 lakh. The Mumbai Indians (MI) also made one of the day's biggest moves, buying back their two-time title winner, 25-year-old New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr, for Rs 3 crore. Adding to the surprises, UP Warriorz surprisingly shelled out Rs 2.40 crore for veteran India all-rounder Shikha Pandey, who last played for the national side in 2023.
