Delhi Capitals (GG) captain Jemimah Rodrigues has been fined for slow over-rate during the team's Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 clash against Gujarat Giants (GG).This was Jemimah's first over-rate offence and it resulted in a fine of INR 12 lakh. The match proved to be a thrilling contest as GG denied DC from reaching the 175-run target in the final over of the innings.
Mooney and Anushka's important knocks
After being invited to bat first, the Giants posted a fighting total of 174/9 on the board after 20 overs. Beth Mooney proved to be the star perfformer with the bat and played a gritty knock of 58 runs from 46 deliveries. She was well-supported by the inexperienced Anushka Sharma who scored 39 runs and formed a valuable partnership of 54 with Mooney.
However, the likes of Sophie Devine, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham and more failed to deliver as GG had a rather underwhelming innings. It was Tanuja Kanwar's last-stitch cameo of 24 runs that got them to a respectable total. For DC, left-arm spinner Shree Charani proved to be the top performer, recording figures of 4/31 in his quota of four overs.
In reply, the DC also had a poor start to their innings and all their top five batters got dismissed for cheap scores. They were left reeling on 85/5 after Laura Wolvaardt departed for 24 runs. They looked to be down and out of the game at one stage, but the duo of Niki Prasad and Sneh Rana brought them back into contention. They formed a massive partnership of 70 runs and the match was eventually decided in the final over.
Devine's incredible final over
The experienced Devine ended up bowling a phenomenal over right at the death and first got rid of Rana for 29 runs. With four runs required on the final delivery, the former New Zealand skipper dismissed Niki for 47 as GG won the match by just a three-run margin. Devine was adjudged as the Player of the Match for her bowling figures of 4/37. The win has seen them climb to the second spot on the standings with eight points while DC remain on six points and are now down to fourth.
