England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has climbed to second place on the all-time T20 run-scorers' list after overtaking Chris Gayle during The Hundred 2026. The milestone came in Manchester Super Giants' opening fixture against London Spirit, with Buttler now trailing only former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard in the format's all-time charts.
The achievement adds another landmark to Buttler's glittering T20 career, which has seen him establish himself as one of the most consistent batters in the shortest format.

Jos Buttler overtakes Gayle in all-time T20 run charts
Buttler required just six runs to move past Gayle before the match and reached the milestone despite managing only 16 runs off 11 balls before being dismissed by Adam Zampa.
The knock took his overall tally to 14,572 T20 runs, moving him ahead of Gayle's 14,562 and making him the second-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket.
Only Kieron Pollard remains ahead of the England star with 14,803 runs, leaving Buttler just 231 runs away from the top spot.

Buttler closes in on another major milestone
After a slow start to the year in T20 cricket, Buttler rediscovered his rhythm during the second half of the season. He scored 526 runs for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, helping the franchise reach the final before producing one of the finest innings of his career during England's T20I series against India.
The 35-year-old smashed 131 off 64 balls in the fifth T20I at Southampton, registering his first T20 century in more than two years as England completed a 4-0 series victory over the defending T20 World Cup champions.
Unlike Pollard, who is in the latter stages of his playing career, Jos Buttler continues to feature regularly for England and remains a sought-after player in franchise leagues around the world, including the IPL, The Hundred, and SA20. He also recently signed a new three-year contract with Lancashire, ensuring more opportunities to add to his tally and potentially become the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket history.
