The former Pakistan pacer is set to return to action in the ongoing T20 Blast with Nottinghamshire.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has reached a significant off-field milestone after acquiring British citizenship, a development that will allow him to play as a domestic player in English county cricket. The change comes as Amir prepares to return to action with Nottinghamshire in the ongoing T20 Blast 2026.

The left-arm pacer has joined Notts Outlaws for the remainder of the tournament and will no longer occupy one of the club's overseas player slots, potentially opening up more opportunities for him in England's domestic circuit.

Mohammad Amir joins Notts Outlaws as domestic player

Nottinghamshire confirmed Amir's arrival on Thursday, with the experienced seamer available for the remainder of the T20 Blast campaign, including the knockout stages should the Outlaws progress.

The club also confirmed that Amir's newly acquired British citizenship means he will now be registered as a domestic player rather than an overseas signing.

"As a British passport holder, Amir will not be counted as an overseas player for the duration of his stay at Trent Bridge, which includes any potential knockout matches that Notts may play."

The development provides Nottinghamshire with greater squad flexibility as they continue their push for the T20 Blast title. The Outlaws currently sit among the leading teams in the North Group and will hope Mohammad Amir's experience strengthens their bowling attack during the decisive stages of the competition.

Former Pakistan star enters new phase of career

Amir remains one of Pakistan's most recognizable fast bowlers of the modern era. He burst onto the international scene as a teenage sensation before playing a pivotal role in Pakistan's triumphs at the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.

Over the years, the 34-year-old has established himself as a highly sought-after T20 specialist across franchise leagues worldwide. His record in the shortest format reflects that reputation, having claimed 425 wickets in 364 T20 matches while maintaining an average of 22.63 and an economy rate of 7.36.
