India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is likely to return to competitive cricket before the start of the T20 Mumbai League as he is expected to feature for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East against the Uganda national cricket team on May 30.
Uganda are currently on a white-ball tour of Mumbai where they are playing four one-day matches and four T20 games.
The T20 fixtures are being played against different franchises participating in the upcoming T20 Mumbai League, which begins on June 1.
As reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI), Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar confirmed that Suryakumar is expected to be part of the side for the match against Uganda.
"He is a part of the team so he is likely to play," Khanvilkar told reporters during the announcement of the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding between MCA and Cricket Uganda.
Suryakumar dealt with injury rumours and disappointing IPL 2026
Suryakumar’s return to action comes after a difficult IPL 2026 season where the Mumbai Indians batter struggled badly with form.
The India T20I captain recently had to address rumours surrounding a possible wrist injury after social media speculation suggested that fitness issues were affecting his batting.
However, Suryakumar Yadav firmly denied suffering from any wrist problem and stated that if he actually had an injury, he would not have been able to execute his trademark flick shots and wrist-heavy strokeplay.
Despite his clarification, IPL 2026 turned out to be one of the toughest seasons of his T20 career.
After entering the tournament on the back of a brilliant 2025 season where he had scored more than 700 runs, Suryakumar managed only 270 runs in 13 matches with just two half-centuries.

His struggles also reflected in the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) disastrous campaign as the five-time champions finished ninth on the points table with only four wins in 14 matches.
Still, the star batter ended the season with a fighting half-century against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and will now hope to regain rhythm before the T20 Mumbai League begins.
