PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and the star Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty booked their spots in the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open after impressive victories in Bangkok on Thursday, May 14.
India enjoyed a strong outing at the Super 500 tournament as some of its biggest badminton stars progressed comfortably to the last eight in their respective categories.

Sindhu, Lakshya and Sat-Chi cruise into last eight
Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu produced a commanding display in the women’s singles category, defeating Denmark’s Amalie Schulz in straight games 21-13, 21-15. The Indian star wrapped up the contest in just 28 minutes to continue her strong run in the tournament.
PV Sindhu now faces a much tougher challenge in the quarterfinals against Japan’s world No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi.
In men’s singles, seventh seed Lakshya Sen also progressed with ease after brushing aside China’s Zhu Xuan Chen 21-12, 21-13 in a match lasting 39 minutes. The Indian shuttler looked in complete control throughout the encounter and will next face the winner between Lee Chia Hao and Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Meanwhile, Satwik and Chirag continued their dominant form in men’s doubles by overcoming Malaysia’s Bryan Jeremy Goonting and Muhammad Haikal 21-12, 21-19. The Indian duo sealed the match in 44 minutes to storm into the quarterfinals.
The world No. 4 pair will next take on Japanese combination Takumi Nomura and Yuichi Shimogami in the final eight.

Mixed results for the Indian contingent
While India celebrated multiple quarterfinal qualifications, several players bowed out of the competition.
Kidambi Srikanth suffered a hard-fought three-game defeat against Chinese Taipei’s Su Li Yang, while Indian mixed doubles pairs Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto and Rohan Kapoor-Ruthvika Shivani also exited the tournament.
