The point leaves both teams with mixed feelings

Belgium and Iran played out a tense 0-0 draw in Group G of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, with neither team able to score.

The highly anticipated clash saw a dominant yet blunt Belgian side frustrated by a resilient, well-organized Iranian defense. Despite controlling much of the possession and creating several chances, the Red Devils failed to find a breakthrough, with Iran's goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand producing several key saves.

Belgium were reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when defender Nathan Ngoy received a red card following a poor back pass. Even with the numerical disadvantage, Belgium continued to press but were repeatedly denied by Iran's disciplined setup.

An Iranian goal by Mehdi Taremi was disallowed for offside in the first half, keeping the score level at the break. Late chances for players like Dodi Lukébakio came close but failed to alter the result.

The point leaves both teams with mixed feelings. Belgium, tipped as one of the stronger sides in the group, have now drawn their first two matches and will need a strong result in their final group game. Iran, known for their fighting spirit, earned a valuable point against higher-ranked opposition through determined defending.
