While the headline clash may be muted, the game still carries significance for seeding and momentum heading into the knockouts

Football fans have been excited about the France vs Norway match tonight to see Kylian Mbappe vs Erling Haaland, the new generation football stars. However, the new update on the Manchester City star has left everyone disappointed.

In a move that has stunned fans worldwide, Norway has confirmed it will rotate as many as 10 players for Friday’s final Group I match at Boston Stadium, with star striker Haaland among those set to be rested.

Haaland benched vs Mbappe-led France as Norway tries rotation in World Cup

Both teams have already secured qualification for the round of 32 after strong starts to the tournament. Norway defeated Iraq 4-1 and edged Senegal 3-2, while France has also advanced comfortably. With progression assured, Norway coach Stale Solbakken has prioritised squad management and freshness ahead of the knockout stages over chasing a potential group-topping result.

The decision effectively ends hopes of a mouth-watering showdown between Haaland and the Real Madrid star, both of whom have scored four goals so far and are in contention for the Golden Boot. The Norwegian is expected to start on the bench, with Alexander Sørloth likely leading the line in a heavily changed Norwegian XI.

While the headline clash may be muted, the game still carries significance for seeding and momentum heading into the knockouts. Norway will hope their rotated squad can still compete, but few expect them to trouble a deep and talented French roster.
