England's celebrations after defeating co-hosts Mexico in FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 were dampened after their midfielder Jordan Henderson got injured while celebrating. Henderson was rushed to hospital after he fell awkwardly while trying to hop over advertising hoarding after 3-2 win over Mexico at Mexico City Stadium.
Henderson seemed to have snapped his wrist as he took the fall. He was stretchered off the field after initial medical attention. The videos of his fall have gone viral on social media.
In the post-match press conference, England managed Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the injury is serious in nature.
"I am sad because Jordan injured his wrist and it is quite serious. It looks really bad," Tuchel told BBC One.

"It's a quite serious injury and it doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. I do not know the procedure; the doctor told me he is in hospital."
The 36-year-old midfielder did not feature in the Round of 16 match against Mexico. It injury makes his availability for the quarterfinal clash against Norway in doubt. England are scheduled to go up against Norway on July 11 at Miami Gardens, Florida.
Quansah ruled out of Norway game
Despite the win, England dealt another blow as Jarell Quansah was shown the red card for his ill-timed sliding tackle in the 54th minute against Jesus Gallardo. Quansah won’t be available for the Norway clash either.
In the absence of Quansah, England were able to keep Mexico at bay. There were relentless attacks from Mexico towards the end of the second half. They held the majority of the possession as well but weren’t able to find the equaliser.
Bellingham’s brace, Kane scores penalty
Earlier, Jude Bellingham had scored a brace in the first half within 98 seconds. Later, Harry Kane scored off a penalty in the second half. He ended up conceding a penalty as well.
Kane, a contender for golden boot
Kane finds himself in the race for golden boot. He is one shy of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland. In the quarterfinal clash, either Kane or Haaland will be knocked out of the tournament and the golden boot race.
